Recovered from my weekly article on the old MVP site in the summer of 2013.
Begin:
I hope you’re all doing well today! While this update may not be the most thrilling bit of JuJu you’ve ever read, I wanted to reach out since the site has been a little light on updates this week, mainly due to various work commitments. So, consider this a quick infusion of JuJu love and a few updates from me, Johnny B.
Recently, long-time MVP Players Steven Tucker and Belton Horton approached me about collaborating on a slasher short film. Since then, I’ve been keeping us all busy with pre-production. We’re targeting the 20th and 21st for shooting. If any of you in the Albemarle area are interested in lending a hand, feel free to reach out to me at brent@brentbowers.com.
In other news, after a brief return to Blak Saturn, I’ve decided to shift my focus back to my music with Absolute Zero, as well as my filmmaking and fitness projects. As a result, I’ll be stepping down from Blak Saturn. The timing of my departure will depend on when they can find a replacement, and with gigs already booked, I’m not looking to leave them hanging. It’s simply a matter of being overextended. That said, it was great to reunite with my old bandmates for a show, and I’m glad to have resolved the past drama with the former guitarist and drummer. It feels good to close that chapter, and it seems like my reasons for moving on have been accepted in good faith, leaving things on friendly terms. All in all, no hard feelings.
Absolute Zero is back in action, and our rehearsals last Sunday went incredibly well. We’re slated to perform at the 2013 Smith Splash Festival in the park on May 4th, with the potential for more shows, including the August fair. It’s shaping up to be an exciting summer for the band!
On the film front, my VFX work on Mosaic 33 has been slower than anticipated. To be honest, there’s a lot more masking involved than I expected, and it’s been a bit of a grind. That said, I’ll get it all done before the looming screening deadline, even if it means going into lockdown mode to finish. The quality has to be there, and I refuse to rush it.
As for Brento’s Budget Filmmaking Podcast, we’re nearing the halfway mark. I’ve decided to cap the series at 50 episodes, and we’re approaching #25. So far, it’s been a rewarding journey.
On a side note, despite not having a minute to work on it, I couldn’t resist another Hobby Lobby shopping spree for Claymation supplies. I still have hopes of working on a Claymation project someday—perhaps for a music video.
